Understanding Craps Bets
One of the most important steps of learning to play Craps is learning how the classic dice game’s different bets work. You don’t need to learn them all at once, so start with the basics and work your way toward the more challenging props bets.
Basic bets such as the Pass Line bet are a good way to start learning the game that has been played in casinos, on sidewalks, and even on battlefields during World Wars. You can increase your knowledge of the betting options as you grow in skill and experience.
Bets On The Table
All Craps tables use the same layout to make it easy for players to find their favourite bets. The Come bets and their related wagers are on the left side, and the Pass bets and their related betting options are on the right of the table. The props bets are in the centre.
A Closer Look At Bets
The following list of Craps bets and their explanations does not cover all the options you will find at the table. However, it will get you off to a good start, and it can help you move beyond the option recommended for beginners.
Pass Line – Known as the beginner’s bet, the Pass Line is a wager that you will win by rolling a 7 or 11. A 2, 3, or 12 loses, and any other number is the Point. If you establish the Point, you’ll need to roll it again before rolling a 7 to win.
Pass Line Odds – You can take the odds by placing the Pass Line Odds bet if you establish the Point after placing a Pass Line bet. Win it by rolling the Point again before rolling a 7.
Don’t Pass Line – Roll 2 or 3 to win a Don’t Pass Line bet. A 7 or 11 loses, and a 12 pushes. Any other result is the Point. You need to roll a 7 before rolling 12 or the Point again to win.
Don’t Pass Odds – Similar to the Pass Line Odds. You can place the Don’t Pass Odds bet if you establish the Point after placing a Don’t Pass Line bet. Win the Odds bet in the same way as you win the Don’t Pass Line.
Come – You can place the Come bet after establishing the Point. The same rules as the Pass Line bet apply.
Don’t Come – The Don’t Come bet offers you another option for betting after establishing the Point. It follows the same rules as the Don’t Pass Line bet.
2 Craps/Snake Eyes – Also known as Snake Eyes, the 2 Craps props bet is a wager that you will win by rolling 2, that is, the result of each dice will be 1. If you win the bet, you win a payout of 30:1.
3 Craps/Ace-Deuce – Also known as Ace-Deuce, the 3 Craps bet is one that you win by rolling a 3. That is, one dice will produce a 1 and the other will produce a 2. If you win, the bet pays out 17:1.
